Multnomah County Animal Services  is ready to make a deal! With hundreds of cats crowding the Troutdale shelter, the county has eliminated the adoption fee for mature cats (one year or older). All you have to pay is the $8 license fee.  All cats come spayed or neutered with  current vaccinations. Donations are welcome.

Pluckypuppy is starting a six week beginning obedience and socialization course, designed especially for puppies between 8 and 20 weeks.  Basic obedience training (sit, down, stay, come….) as well as problem prevention (biting, barking, chewing), using positive reinforcement. Socialization helps prevent future dog-aggression.

Kinderpuppy 2+AKC S.T.A.R  Puppy Test  Thursdays at 7:15. Starting Sept. 16th.

This is a 6-week intermediate obedience and socialization course, for puppies up to one year old who have completed Kinderpuppy 1 or an equivalent puppy class. Because continued socialization is such an important part of your puppy’s healthy development into a friendly, well-adjusted adult dog, this class will focus on intermediate obedience and off-leash play and socialization. Adequate socialization to other puppies teaches puppies proper canine communication skills, develops their bite inhibition, and helps prevent future dog-aggression. In addition to socialization, this class also covers intermediate obedience training (more reliable sit, down, stand, stay, come, leave it, and settle) with a focus on greater distractions and fading out food rewards, as well as problem prevention (jumping up, pulling on leash). Each class will include several supervised play sessions. The AKC STAR Puppy Test (the puppy version of the Canine Good Citizen test) will be administered on the last day of class. Puppies must have current DHPP vaccinations. First class meeting is for people only.

AKC Canine Good Citizen. Thursdays at 7:15, Starting October 28th, no class 11/25.

Is your dog a well-mannered member of canine and human society? We’ll take 7 weeks to prepare you and your dog to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test, which will be adminstered on the last day of class. This class will teach your dog how to sit politely during greetings, petting, grooming, and examination; how to walk politely on a loose leash, including through crowds of people and when meeting other dogs and people; to sit, down, stay, and come on cue; , and to maintain focus around distractions and remain calm when you are out of sight. You can read more about the CGC Test Items here. This class is for friendly dogs (purebred and mixed) who have taken a minimum mof two other training classes (or with approval from the instructor). Dogs must be current on DHPP and rabies vaccinations. First class meeting is for people only.
